May Gray: Trash Picked Up By One Person In May 2022

The amount of trash cleaned up off Mission Beach for May is deceivingly lower than last month, but for a good reason. The month of May brought more planned beach cleanups by other organizations with a mission to help keep Mission Beach beautiful. We are so grateful; however, their pickup numbers are not reflected in ours, meaning May's numbers would most likely have been higher than April's. Regardless, we are incredibly thankful for their help! Seed4Greatness invited DTMB to

    Bonfires: A Hot Topic

Cathy Ives weighs in on the topic of banning beach bonfires not in City fire rings. This, like so many things are ruined by those who cannot seem to follow the rules and care for their fellow human beings. Beach fires more often lead to trash and debris left behind along with burning embers in the ground. Too often we find broken bottles, left over food, trash and other food waste along with burning embers directly on the sand posing an environmental and a public health haza

April 2022 Trash Picked Up By One Person

It's an unfortunate trend to see our monthly trash pick-up numbers stay consistent. Approximately 17, 843 pieces of trash were picked up off of Mission Beach by just one of our volunteers for the month of April. This number doesn't include our April Beach Cleanup that brought in over 500 lbs of trash by 80 plus volunteers, or the trash picked up daily by our neighborhood residents. Our year-to-date total stands at nearly 60,000 pieces of trash. Why? It's simple, too many peop

Beach & Bay Press: Keeping Mission Beach clean a daily challenge for residents.

On a gorgeous April 9 morning, dozens of volunteers including entire families recovered pounds and pounds of trash they’d collected to be weighed and ultimately disposed of or dispensed for the good of Mission Beach. “It was disappointing to find all the trash in a small area, all the different beer cans, cigarette butts, and sandwiches,” noted Marisa Kaprow of North PB, who joined the beach cleanup, co-sponsored by nonprofit Don’t Trash Mission Beach and the Mission Beach To

Mission Beach Loses Over Five Hundred Pounds In Just Hours! Learn How Today!

The 2nd annual Don't Trash Mission Beach, Beach Clean and Food Drive was a great success. Approximately 80 of our amazing volunteers collected over 500 lbs of trash in South Mission Beach! Included in the mix were over 23 towels and blankets, 61 toys, 23 pairs of shoes, and 500 plus glass and plastic bottles and cans. In addition, over 100 food items were donated to the San Diego Food Bank. We wish to thank all of our sponsors: Mission Beach Town Council, Olive Baking Co, the

San Diego Reader: The impact of Halloween in Mission Beach

"I, along with others, are extremely angry over the lack of enforcement on Halloween; there were only two police cars at the parking lot at Belmont, and on the beach, there was a couple with an illegal fire, and nothing was done," said Cathy Ives of DontTrashMissionBeach.com. "There were 12 fires that I could see." Almost every day, Ives picks up litter on Mission Beach by the fire pits and the adjacent boardwalk between Belmont Park and the jetty a mile south. On November 6,
