A Life Of Re-Purpose.

The measure of life is not its duration but its donation. Part of what we do at Don't Trash Mission Beach is rescuing reusable items and giving them back to those in need. In 2022 we were able to rescue and re-donate or reuse 9764 items. Our primary donation places are Goodwill, Father Joe's, Homeless, and Humane Society. Brand New Year; Same Old Story: The January 2023 Beach Trash Report

Approximately 22,000 pieces of trash were picked up from Mission Beach by just one of our volunteers in January. That is an astounding number considering the small, one-mile length of beach we are tracking. This number does not include any trash picked up north of Belmont Park up to Pacific Beach Dr. or the rest of the entire neighborhood, including the Mission Bay coastline and parks. HO HO My Goodness! The December Beach Trash Numbers!

The month of December brought nearly 6300 pieces of beach trash to South Mission Beach. This represents ONLY the categorized items that one of our volunteer's records. Our other five volunteers pick up an average total of 40 lbs of trash on a daily basis. OH NOvember! Mission Beach Cleanup Stats for November 2022.

Fall and Winter months are typically slower here in Mission Beach. The weather is much cooler and wet and so not as many people show up. Sadly, a good amount of trash still does. The numbers for November 2022 are lower but for the off season, 9823 pieces of trash picked up on one mile of beach (the Jetty north to Voltaire) by one person in a month is just astounding. In September of 2022 our volunteers removed 26,233 pieces of trash. These statistics are from South Mission Beach Oceanfront Only and does not include the trash picked up by other volunteers that do not use the Marine Tracker App. We also conducted a Beach Clean Up in September removing an additional 348 pounds of trash and we had 140 volunteers: I love a Clean San Diego was our co-host and they provided additional volunteers. It's an unfortunate trend to see our monthly trash pick-up numbers stay consistent. Approximately 17, 843 pieces of trash were picked up off of Mission Beach by just one of our volunteers for the month of April.
