The measure of life is not its duration but its donation. Part of what we do at Don't Trash Mission Beach is rescuing reusable items and giving them back to those in need. In 2022 we were able to rescue and re-donate or reuse 9764 items. Our primary donation places are Goodwill, Father Joe's, Homeless, and Humane Society. We also donated to various causes throughout the year. Textiles: A total of 7325 items were picked up in 2022, and we were able to donate a total of 2891 it

Approximately 22,000 pieces of trash were picked up from Mission Beach by just one of our volunteers in January. That is an astounding number considering the small, one-mile length of beach we are tracking. This number does not include any trash picked up north of Belmont Park up to Pacific Beach Dr. or the rest of the entire neighborhood, including the Mission Bay coastline and parks. The month of December brought nearly 6300 pieces of beach trash to South Mission Beach. This represents ONLY the categorized items that one of our volunteer's records. Our other five volunteers pick up an average total of 40 lbs of trash on a daily basis. Fall and Winter months are typically slower here in Mission Beach. The weather is much cooler and wet and so not as many people show up. Sadly, a good amount of trash still does. The numbers for November 2022 are lower but for the off season, 9823 pieces of trash picked up on one mile of beach (the Jetty north to Voltaire) by one person in a month is just astounding. This does not include what is picked up by other locals and beach cleanup organizations that come down to help

The amount of trash cleaned up off Mission Beach for May is deceivingly lower than last month, but for a good reason. The month of May brought more planned beach cleanups by other organizations with a mission to help keep Mission Beach beautiful.
